Sacrament of Baptism

Congratulations!   God has blessed you with the gift of a child!

​

Now, as dutiful and faithful parents, it is the time to celebrate the Baptism of your child. In Baptism your child is welcomed into the Church; becoming a member of the Body of Christ.  Through baptism you affirm that your child, with the help of godparents, will be raised in the practice of our faith, learn to serve others as we are called by Christ and join with the entire community in praise of God, our Father.

The information on this page will assist you in understanding and preparing for the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism.

All parents and godparents must attend a Baptismal Preparation class within a year prior to the baptism and at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of the baptism. If you do not attend the OLMC/HS preparation class, you must have a letter or certificate from the parish where you attended a preparation class.

Parents

  • Presenting parent(s) must be Catholic in good standing with the Church

  • Must be registered members of OLMC/HS parishes

  • Present a birth certificate of the child(ren) to be baptized

Godparents

  • Godparents [one male and/or one female] must be at least 18 years old and a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church

  • Cannot be the father or mother of the child

  • Have received sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist

  • Have a letter or certificate from their home parish certifying their eligibility to serve as a sponsor

  • If married, must be married in the Catholic Church

Baptism preparation classes are offered as follows, please call the Parish Office to make a reservation: 

  • in English, on the 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 PM, at OLMC.  

  • in Creole, every Tuesday at 6:00 PM, at OLMC.

Baptisms are scheduled at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (OLMC) as follows:

  • 1st Sunday of each month at the 11:00 AM Mass

  • 4th Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM - Ceremony

Baptisms are scheduled at Holy Spirit (HS) as follows:

  • Each Sunday at the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM Mass (English)

  • 1st and 3rd Sunday each month at 11:45 AM Mass (Spanish)
